Vintage original Telecaster Custom with the Wide Range Humbucker developed by Seth Lover. The inventor of the humbucker pickup, Seth Lover, was commissioned by Fender in the 70s to create a humbucker that would retain the characteristic Fender “twang”. His design for Fender included polepieces made of the magnetic copper alloy CuNiFe. This is in contrast to the Gibson humbucker, where the magnetic material is in the form of a bar under the non-magnetic pole pieces.
This crucial difference leads to more differentiation of the individual strings and that crisp attack that is so popular for Fender.
Fender guitars with the original Wide Range humbucker pickups are becoming increasingly sought after and accordingly hard to find. This Telecaster in rare Mocha Brown has experienced quite a lot. Various marks bear witness to wild gigs and sessions. Alcoholic beverages were probably involved, because there is a suspicious-looking spot on the back that has been stripped of its lacquer…
Nonetheless (or precisely because of this?) this Tele sounds incredibly lively and has a wonderful twang.
