With its split diamond inlay on the headstock, the mother-of-pearl inlays in the black ebony fingerboard, the five-ply binding and the gold-plated hardware, Gibson showed as early as the mid-1950s how elegantly an electric guitar can be built. Today, it is still one of the most sought-after models in the entire Gibson range of Les Pauls. Les Paul himself also favored the Custom and played this model exclusively for many years.
